Model Highlights

The rear-wheel-drive 2008 Bentley Azure is powered by a 6.75L, twin-turbocharged V8 engine making 450 brake horsepower and an especially noteworthy 645 lb-ft of torque; it's paired with a smooth-shifting six-speed automatic transmission. The transmission won't need to downshift very often for passing, though; with the engine's massive torque output it promises a relaxed and refined--yet very quick--driving experience. Despite a weight of nearly 6,000 pounds, the Azure can sprint to 60 mph in only 5.6 seconds, with a top speed of 171 mph. Although the Azure has a very traditional, conservative appearance, it has an extremely rigid, modern body structure and sophisticated double-wishbone suspension for surprisingly agile handling. Carbon-fiber cross braces contribute to better ride and handling characteristics overall. The folding soft top is very well isolated from the weather and road and wind noise, with a thick, three-layer construction and a hide-trimmed tonneau. The hydraulic mechanism can completely open and stow the top in less than 30 seconds. Thorax-protecting side air bags are there for front and rear occupants, and a pop-up rollover protection system can deploy, in an accident, just behind the rear seats, which are large enough for adults. Like other Bentley models, the Azure is sold on a "bespoke" basis, meaning that nearly all elements of the vehicle are customizable to the buyer's specific tastes, with a long list of materials and trims available for the interior, along with several flashy wheel upgrades and special-effects paint finishes. The color of the upholstery, if one of the 21 standard colors isn't to satisfaction, can also be customized to customer specification. The steering wheel is even available with several possible veneered finishes: Burr Walnut, Dark Stained Burr Walnut, Burr Oak, Birds Eye Maple, and Piano Black. A park-distance system and tri-zone climate control system are standard, with a navigation system, reverse camera, and high-end sound systems available. An especially noteworthy option is the carbon/silicon carbide brakes, which have the largest-diameter discs of any production passenger car on sale today, Bentley says.
